Cute. Compact. Powerful. Say Hello to the New BERNINA 3 Series.

Attending Bernina University is such a treat every year.  Whether they're releasing a new machine, or giving a facelift to a current one, every year you're in for a treat.  I've been in the sewing industry my entire life and attended conventions similar to these since before I even realized it.

Here's a photo of me (on the left) at VDTA in Las Vegas somewhere around 1992.  I would beg my mom and grandpa to take me to Circus Circus and get my face painted every year, lol! By the way, VDTA stands for the vacuum dealers trade association, and somehow, sewing dealers have always been lumped into that convention.

Anyway, I digress.  BERNINA UNIVERSITY is a sewing convention unlike any other.  Bernina stands out in a class of their own when it comes to product development and education, and they take their annual convention very seriously.  There are hundreds of classes for dealers and their staff to attend where they infuse the Bernina culture and product knowledge into us so that you, the consumer, can then visit your local dealer and feel like you also got to attend BU. Of all of the conventions I have attended throughout my life, BU is the absolute best.

This year we learned all about the next generation 3 series.  Believe it or not, the 3 series is the machine that brought me to Bernina.  My family has sold sewing machines my entire life, but never Bernina.  We sold Janome, Pfaff, Necchi, Juki, and more.... But I always wondered why not Bernina?  And then they came out with the special edition Cotton and Steel 3 series.  I was at the Houston Quilt Market in 2016, while working for my mom's store, when I first saw this machine and I had to have it.  My mom wasn't a Bernina dealer at the time, but this machine started the push from me to make her become one.

How freaking cute were these machines?! So sad I never got to add one of these to my collection.

FAST FORWARD to 2025 - and Bernina has reimagined the 3 series with a more friendly navigation system!

Here are my top 3 reasons everyone needs to get their hands on this machine.

1- This machine has the same user interface as their 4, 5, and 7 series machines.  That means that you can access tutorials and the sewing consultant all on the touch screen now.  Making this machine perfect for a beginning sewer, or someone who has a larger Bernina at home and is looking for a travel machine that operates the same way their larger machine does.

2- Newly added presser foot pressure adjustment.  We can now adjust the pressure up and down for how much the foot is making contact with our material.  This is super helpful in a compact machine, as this is not something a machine this size typically has.  Super thick materials glide through without any issues!

3- On-Screen button measuring! Just like the big fancy 7, 8 and 9 series has had for years, you can now measure your button on screen for it to make the perfect size button hole for you without measuring.  Another reason this is the perfect machine for a beginning sewer.
